A huge Canadian sub PS-1000 has not only the record sizes and mass, but, perhaps, the most curious design. First of all, an acoustic design "bandpass" was used: internal volume of the body is divided into two compartments by a partition, where a 255mm driver is fixed; the bigger one among the compartments, on which the speaker rests against by a rear side of the diffusor, connects with external world through three cylindrical channels - bass-reflex ports. The advantage of such scheme is in the ability to get a high response in narrow frequency band, but for this you often have to pay by the increase of duration of step response that, in turn, causes the effect of coloring. Another highlight is a digital amplifier, which uses pulse-width modulation of signal and allows you to combine compactness and bigger electric power. In addition to standard controls, there are a smooth change of phase (in the range 0°-180°) and signal filtration for satellites. You can even put up with excessive sizes for such magnificence. It is difficult to control emotions at the description of PS-1000 in the theatre complex. The walls of our listening room haven't shake for so long under the "impression" of explosions, shots and tectonic disasters. The sub royally presented clots and streams of low-frequency energy to the listener. The lightness admires you most of all, with which the system juggles by blocks of deep bass giving very natural picture of displayed sound event: shock takes you when a seismic wave of distant explosion comes on, when powerful helicopter blades "milled" denser air ("The runner", "The fight"). A typical scene of unbridled battle in city center showed some kind of system's selectivity in the presentation of low-frequency content of shots: single shots from pump-action shotgun sound very realistic; string of burst from M-16 is slightly smoothed. However, showiness of performance, significantly enhanced by the presence of PS-1000, shoulders the viewer deep into action and hearing can easily forgive a slight tightening of the pulsed sounds. If you combine the sub with mature in low-frequency sense floor pair, its abilities of customization allow you to reach deep, soft, natural bass base in cinema and music.
